ClueScale — One word, one number, three rotating roles

ClueScale is a deduction party game for 2-20 players built on a rule set you can teach in 30 seconds: one player picks a secret number from 1 to 10, another sees it and gives a single-word clue, and everyone else guesses the number from that one word. That is the whole game — and it is much harder and much funnier than it sounds, because compressing "7" into one word that your friends will decode (but not TOO easily) is a genuine skill. Roles rotate every round so everyone gets to be the Picker, the Clue-Giver and a Guesser, rounds take 1-2 minutes, and a full game lands at 10-20 minutes. Free in the browser on any device.

ClueScale is a free online party game for 2+ players — no download, no sign-up. It runs in any browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile.

How to Play ClueScale

  1. Understand the three roles — Each round has a Picker (chooses a secret number 1-10), a Clue-Giver (gives a single-word clue), and Guessers (everyone else tries to guess the number).
  2. Picker chooses a number — The Picker selects a number between 1 and 10. Only the Picker and the Clue-Giver see it.
  3. Clue-Giver gives one word — The Clue-Giver sees the number and gives a single word as a clue. It should hint at the number without being too obvious or too obscure.
  4. Guessers try to crack it — Everyone else sees the clue and guesses the number. Points go to correct guesses, good clues, and clever picks.
  5. Roles rotate each round — Roles rotate so everyone plays every position. Most points after all rounds wins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a game take?

Each round takes about 1-2 minutes. A full game with all role rotations takes 10-20 minutes depending on player count.

Is ClueScale easy to learn?

The rules take 30 seconds to explain: pick a number, give a one-word clue, guess the number. The depth comes from crafting clues that are helpful but not obvious.

What makes a good clue?

A good clue connects to the number without being predictable. If the number is 7, "lucky" is obvious. "Sins" or "dwarfs" gives the same hint with more flavor.

Can I play with a large group?

ClueScale works with up to 20 players. More players means more guessers each round.

Does ClueScale work on phones?

Yes — it runs in the mobile browser, and since each turn is a single word or a single number, it is one of the most phone-friendly games on the platform.

Is ClueScale free?

Yes, free in the browser like every GameBuddies game. Create a room, share the code, and you are guessing numbers within a minute — no download, no account.
